Kuwait Mandate

XBRL compliance, done correctly

Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry is rolling out XBRL filing requirements through the Qayd platform, with mandatory timelines applying to covered entities from 1 January 2027. OFO prepares your financials from the ground up — or works from existing statements — so your filing is structured correctly from the start.

What is XBRL and why does it matter now?

XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) is a structured data format for financial statements. Instead of a PDF or Word document, your financials are tagged so regulators can read them programmatically.

Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry implemented the Qayd platform to require XBRL filings from registered companies. The scope of which companies are required to file, and by when, should be confirmed directly with the Ministry or a licensed adviser — requirements and timelines have evolved.

Getting it wrong — incorrect tagging, missing elements, incompatible accounting software — means your filing will be rejected or require correction under time pressure. Starting early gives you room to fix issues without a deadline crisis.

A common gap: Many small businesses in Kuwait have financial statements prepared for audit or bank purposes, not for XBRL. The formatting, chart of accounts, and accounting periods may not map cleanly to the Qayd taxonomy without some intervention. OFO assesses the gap first, then closes it — so there are no surprises at filing time.

Four phases, one engagement

01

Readiness assessment

OFO reviews your current financial statements, accounting software, chart of accounts, and filing history to identify what needs to change before XBRL preparation can begin. You get a written gap report with a clear scope of work and timeline.

02

Books cleanup (if required)

If your chart of accounts or bookkeeping doesn't map to XBRL taxonomy standards, OFO restructures it. This is common for businesses whose accounts were set up informally or for a different purpose. No preparation work happens until the underlying books are correct.

03

XBRL preparation

OFO prepares your financial statements in the format required by the Qayd platform — tagged to the correct taxonomy elements, with the required disclosures, in the correct period structure. You review and approve before anything is submitted.

04

Submission support

OFO supports the Qayd upload process and works through validation errors that come back from the platform. The goal is a well-prepared, correctly structured filing — OFO stays engaged through the upload and review cycle. Final acceptance is determined by the Qayd platform and the Ministry.

Who needs this now

  • Companies with audited financial statements filing with the Ministry of Commerce
  • Businesses that received a rejection or error from Qayd
  • Companies whose auditor prepared statements not compatible with XBRL taxonomy
  • Businesses whose chart of accounts was set up informally and needs restructuring
  • Any company that hasn't yet assessed their XBRL exposure

What OFO does not do

  • OFO is not an audit firm and does not provide audit or assurance services
  • OFO does not submit on your behalf without your review and sign-off
  • OFO does not prepare tax returns or provide legal advice on filing obligations
